Sponsored Stories. They’re arguably the best form of advertising on Facebook @ this current time. If you’re not familiar w/ the concept, Sponsored Stories give you an opportunity to have your page ‘liked or followed’ by friends of your current followers. They show up as advertising in a current follower’s ad feed as follows:
The concept is incredibly simple. Your ad essentially tells your follower’s friends that you like that company & subsequently, maybe they should too. It’s a powerful execution of trust. We’re more prone to like a business if our friends like then if we are to see the same ad w/out any personal connection.
The #’s back up the theory as well. Here are some stats from a recent internal campaign we ran for generating more likes/follows for our own Facebook Page. Campaign A is setup as a traditional Facebook campaign. Campaign B is setup as a sponsored story campaign.
Campaign A – Traditional FB Advertising
— Impressions: 244,532
— Total Clicks: 48
— Click Rate: 0.023%
— Total New Signups: 14
Campaign B – Sponsored Stories FB Advertising
— Impressions: 243,117
— Total Clicks: 235
— Click Rate: 0.097%
— Total New Signups: 44
To make things relative, the Sponsored Stories advertising outperformed the Traditional advertising by almost 5:1 in re: to clicks, more then 4:1 in the click rate & more then 3:1 for new sign-ups.
We know that money doesn’t grow on trees, even if it is made from it. If you can only choose 1 form of Facebook advertising, I’d recommend you give their Sponsored Stories a try!
